Investigator John B. Spees is available to work state-wide in South Carolina on criminal investigations. Rates will vary depending upon the complexity of the investigation.

John B. Spees is a graduate of Indiana University with a double major in Criminal Justice & History, which prepared him for his law degree from The John Marshall Law School, 1982.

FBI Special Agent for 23 years. Started career in the Asheville, NC Resident Agency, transferred to \ the Washington Field Office, the Director’s Security Detail, Firearms Training Unit, and retired out of the Greenville, SC Resident Agency in March, 2006.

Spees was awarded a pay increase for his outstanding work on child sexual abuse cases on the Cherokee Indian Reservation earlier in his FBI career and continued to be recognized for his work in counter-terrorism cases, violent crimes & narcotics, and as a firearms instructor and SWAT team leader. Spees worked closely with local, state, and other federal agencies on task force cases. Spees was the lead agent for the FBI’s LEBNAP investigation and interviewed the last seven (7) hostages to be released from Lebanon, interviewed one of the leaders of the Achille Lauro hijacking, and helped on other numerous high profile terrorism cases. He traveled extensively overseas working with the local anti-terrorism branches, U.S. embassy staff, and other U.S. intelligence agencies.

While on the Director’s security detail, Spees was responsible for mapping out safe travel routes, was certified as a basic emergency medical technician, and provided after-action reports. Travel was mostly within the U.S., but also included some foreign travel and liaison with foreign governments.

Spees was known for his professionalism with law enforcement and attorneys in the Upstate. Working closely with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he met regularly with defense attorneys and has a reputation as a straight shooter. He also was a regular guest lecturer at Clemson University.
